Chrissy Teigen was craving something different.

The cookbook author is getting candid about her time taking Ozempic, explaining she started taking the type 2 diabetes medication—which has been shown to help with weight loss—after losing her and husband John Legend’s son Jack in September 2020.

“I had two babies and then I lost a baby a little over 20 weeks,” Chrissy explained on the Sept. 18 episode of her podcast Self-Conscious. “My body was just completely stuck. It was like in shock, almost.”

Throughout the 20 weeks she was pregnant with Jack, Chrissy—who also shares children Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 2, and Wren, 2, with John—gained an estimated 40 pounds that she “wasn’t comfortable with.”

The weight gain also served as a reminder of her pregnancy loss, which is what ultimately spurred her to try Ozempic.

“I remember way before people were even talking Ozempic, before it was like a celebrity thing or talked about,” the 39-year-old recalled, “I had tried it for maybe, like a year or so, and noticed no results for three, four months. Zero. Not a pound lost. And then all of a sudden, was finally able to lose the weight that was so reminding me of the baby that I had lost.”
