SKY YORK Journal | As Sudan’s war rages into its second year, a civil coalition is demanding urgent international action over what it describes as systematic war crimes by the Sudanese Armed Forces, including the alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians.
The Democratic Civil Coalition “Samoud”, meeting in Kampala, Uganda, issued a statement accusing the army of deploying internationally banned weapons in civilian areas, calling the act a “heinous crime” that should trigger an immediate global response. The coalition warned that Sudan’s conflict has shifted from a power struggle into a campaign of mass destruction targeting the population’s survival and dignity.
Blame Directed at Islamist Networks
The coalition directly linked the escalation of violence to Islamist leaders tied to the dissolved National Congress Party, accusing them of fueling the war to regain power. According to “Samoud,” these networks remain embedded in Sudanese state institutions and are determined to return to power “at any cost — through blood, displacement, and destruction.”
Mounting Humanitarian Catastrophe
Sudan is now facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Millions have been displaced, infrastructure has been decimated, and hunger and disease are spreading rapidly. Yet, the coalition warned, international attention is fading, leaving civilians to face famine, lawlessness, and the collapse of basic services.
Key Demands
In its statement, “Samoud” called for:
-
The creation of an independent international commission of inquiry into all violations, with a focus on chemical weapons.
-
An immediate ceasefire and a new political process that reflects the will of the Sudanese people, not the agendas of armed groups or regional actors.
Towards Accountability
While the coalition acknowledged its call is only a step, it emphasized that such moves are vital to amplify the voices of victims and to press for justice. “The world must hear Sudan’s cry,” the statement read, warning that without urgent accountability and humanitarian intervention, Sudan risks sliding irreversibly into state collapse and engineered tyranny.
