While Kate seemed at peace with being apart from her kids for Thanksgiving, she previously detailed how she navigated her separation from twin daughters Mady and Cara, 25, after they moved away for college in 2019.
“I unhealthily pretended for the first three months that they were just upstairs sleeping,” she said in a TikTok video in August. “I couldn’t accept the fact that they had left, they were gone and I wasn’t gonna see them until the holidays.”
Kate—who also shares 21-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel with Jon—went on to note that sending her younger kids off to school was much less painful as most of them attend classes closer to home. (Kate and Collin remain estranged following his allegations of abuse at the hands of his mom; in September 2024, her lawyer Richard Puelo addressed the claims, telling Fox News, “The record speaks for itself.”)
“It was a little easier because they could come home on the weekends,” she explained. “It didn’t feel so final. By then, I already had a trial run of kids leaving home.”
