“When we met, I realized pretty immediately that I loved him, but that it might get difficult because of what I was bringing to the table,” Del Rey told W in an interview published Aug. 26. “Jeremy said, ‘I work with alligators—I have tough skin.’ And he is a man of his word. All the things that made me upset—and there were so many!—he would just listen and say, ‘You be you—and I’ll just love you more.'”
Known for her hurts-so-good lyrics, she has always cherished the love in her life, even when it didn’t work out.
“I never thought I’d have the luxury of loving someone and being loved,” Del Rey told the BBC in 2012. “But when it happened, it really was what they talked about in the movies.”
And, when it’s over, she noted, “You should honor love, even when it’s lost.”
But Dufrene wasn’t planning on letting her go.
