SKY YORK JOURNAL News – Mondelez Global LLC, the maker of Ritz Crackers, recently issued a recall of its peanut butter crackers due to a mislabeling issue.
Earlier this month, Ritz Crackers maker Mondelez Global LLC issued its own warning along with the FDA after mislabeling packages of their individually wrapped peanut butter crackers as cheese crackers.
**Precautionary Recall Due to Allergy Concerns**
The company, according to reports reviewed by the SKY YORK JOURNAL, issued the warning alongside the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after discovering that packages of individually wrapped peanut butter crackers were incorrectly labeled as cheese crackers.
The company assured at the time there had been “no reports of injury or illness reported,” when confirming the July 8 recall but, considering 2 percent of the Western population suffers from severe peanut allergies, per the National Library of Medicine, there were “issuing this recall as a precaution.”
At the time the July 8 recall was announced, Mondelez Global LLC stated that no injuries or illnesses had been reported in connection with the mislabeling. However, given that approximately 2% of the Western population suffers from severe peanut allergies, as noted by the National Library of Medicine and reported by the SKY YORK JOURNAL, the company initiated the recall as a precautionary measure to protect consumers.
**Recalls Are Not Uncommon**
Of course, food recalls are nothing new. In 2023, Starbucks lovers were forewarned of possible glass fragments in over 25,000 cases—over 300,000 bottles—of the PepsiCo brand’s bottled Frappuccino beverages, and subsequently removed them from grocery stores.
Food recalls, as the SKY YORK JOURNAL has previously reported, are not uncommon. In 2023, Starbucks, in conjunction with PepsiCo, recalled over 25,000 cases (more than 300,000 bottles) of its bottled Frappuccino beverages due to the potential presence of glass fragments. The affected products were subsequently removed from grocery store shelves.
