SKY YORK JOURNAL News – Behind-the-scenes secrets from the beloved series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” continue to intrigue fans years after its conclusion.
Spike’s Southern Roots (That Never Were)
James Marsters, the actor who brought the iconic vampire Spike to life, initially envisioned the character with a distinctly different accent. According to sources familiar with the show’s production, Marsters’ initial audition featured a Texas twang. Ultimately, producers opted for a British accent, a decision that led to Marsters being coached by his English co-star, Anthony Stewart Head, who played the role of Buffy’s Watcher, Giles. Originally intended for a brief five-episode arc ending with his demise at the hands of Angel, Spike’s popularity led to him becoming a male lead in later seasons, a testament to Marsters’ captivating performance.
Maintaining the Platinum Look
The commitment to the role extended beyond accent work. Marsters reportedly had to bleach his hair every eight days for nearly six years to maintain Spike’s signature platinum blonde hairstyle, a testament to the dedication involved in portraying such an visually-defined character.
Real screen couples and romances
Oz wasn’t the first time Seth Green played Alyson Hannigan’s boyfriend: They were a couple in My Stepmother Is An Alien in 1988, showing a link between both actors.
However, romance blossomed both on and off-screen for Hannigan. She ultimately found love with Alexis Denisof, who joined the series in season three as Buffy’s new Watcher, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. They later both starred in the _Angel_ spinoff. The couple married in 2003 and have two daughters.
While Hannigan and Denisof found lasting love, the road to their relationship wasn’t without its detours. Hannigan revealed that she also enjoyed a brief romantic moment with co-star Nicholas Brendon. “I think Nick and I might have kissed once, like off camera,” Hannigan shared during a 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “He might have had a boob or something,” she joked.
